Famous Artist Busts in Sculpey- A 7th grade L.A./Art History/Scupture project

7th grade Language Arts and Art class worked together this quarter to study Art History through research papers (for Ms. Wright's Language Art class), Rhetoric (presenting their findings in a powerpoint in Ms. Avery's class) and sculpting. Each student started with an armature made only of laundry detergent caps (for the base), toilet paper rolls (for the neck) and Easter eggs (for the head). They then used Sculpey (a colored, plastic-like clay) to sculpt their busts of their famous artist, learning techniques on how to create the harder parts such as noses, mouths and eyes as they went. The outcome was beyond my expectations.....they did a superb job!
