7th grade Language Arts and Art class worked together this quarter to study Art History through research papers (for Ms. Wright's Language Art class), Rhetoric (presenting their findings in a powerpoint in Ms. Avery's class) and sculpting. Each student started with an armature made only of laundry detergent caps (for the base), toilet paper rolls (for the neck) and Easter eggs (for the head). They then used Sculpey (a colored, plastic-like clay) to sculpt their busts of their famous artist, learning techniques on how to create the harder parts such as noses, mouths and eyes as they went. The outcome was beyond my expectations.....they did a superb job!

LArt Sonnets-8th grader's illustrations for their L.A. Sonnets
Every year, the 8th graders study and write their own sonnets in Language Arts class. This year, we teamed the Language Arts with art by having the students illustrate their sonnets. I decided that the best way to showcase the sonnet and illustration together would be to create our own modern version of a Renaissance diptych.
